Meet the author

Gina Waggott is a writer and former TV professional with a background spanning broadcasting, journalism, and disability advocacy. Her work has been published in The Times, The Sunday Times, Reader’s Digest, Significance Magazine, and many more.

Gina was a production manager and co-ordinator at the BBC for over a decade, where she worked on BAFTA-nominated documentary and factual entertainment series, and later freelanced for Channel 4 and Discovery.

Her debut book is the authorized biography of stuttering popstar Scatman John: The Remarkable Story of the World’s Unlikeliest Popstar, out on 5th February 2026. You can read more about Gina and Scatman John here.

As a person who stutters, Gina is active in several nonprofits serving the global stuttering community and its allies. She is former Vice Chair of Stamily, and is currently the Finance and Operations officer at 50 Million Voices, championing speech equality in the workplace.

She lives in Bristol, UK with her partner, the author and TV producer Graham Hoyland.
